Vedanta’s Tuticorin Copper Smelter to Remain Shut Till Further Notice

Vedanta’s Tuticorin copper smelter will continue to remain shut for now until further notice. In a BSE filing today it said, the Company had applied for renewal of consent to operate (CTO) for its existing Smelter plant at Thoothukudi (Tuticorin). The application has been rejected for want of more clarifications. The Company is evaluating further course of action.

 

As informed by the Company vide its announcement dated March 27, 2018, the scheduled maintenance activities were supposed to be for a period of approximately 15 days from the said date. This is now likely to be extended given the above development. The Company shall update on further developments from time to time.
